The TTC is usually the most practical way to move between central Toronto clusters. Visitors should understand tap payment, proof of payment and the difference between TTC and regional services.
Paying the fare
TTC accepts PRESTO and contactless payment on many routes and stations. Each traveller generally needs a separate payment card or device. Keep the same payment method for transfers and proof of payment.
Two-hour transfer
Eligible TTC tap payments receive a two-hour transfer from the first paid tap. Additional taps within that period are not charged again under the stated rules. Paper transfer rules can differ.
Monthly fare capping change
The TTC announced that monthly passes would end August 31, 2026, with automatic monthly fare capping beginning September 1. Because this is a system change, verify details if visiting after that date.
Accessibility and service changes
Not every station entrance has the same elevator access, and temporary outages occur. Check the TTC accessibility and service-alert pages before a route that depends on a specific elevator.
